TRAFFIC STOP – OUTSTANDING WARRANTS
EUGENE T. NELSON, JR. and LATHANIEL J. MILES
PLATTENVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of Eugene T. Nelson, Jr., of 113 Grant Loop, Paincourtville, LA, and Lathaniel J. Miles, 30, of 172 Daggs Street, Belle Rose, LA, on multiple outstanding arrest warrants following a traffic stop near Plattenville on Saturday.
A deputy, assigned to the I.C.E. detail, stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near a local convenience store. The deputy observed the driver to be Lathaniel J. Miles. The deputy went into the business establishment and arrested Miles on multiple failure to appear warrants.
Once the deputy secured the arrestee, he returned to the suspect vehicle at which time he recognized one of the passengers to be Eugene T. Nelson, Jr., who was also wanted on multiple arrest warrants related to a January 9, 2021 pursuit at which time he eluded deputies.
As the deputy attempted to arrest Nelson, he attempted to flee. A foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was captured a short time later.
Eugene T. Nelson was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center as follows:
-As to Saturday’s incident, Nelson was charged on counts of:
*Resisting an Officer
*Fugitive Warrants (2 Counts, City of Thibodaux)
-As to January 9, 2021 matter, Nelson was booked on counts of:
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Resisting an Officer
*Speeding
*Use of Multiple Bean Road Lighting Equipment
*Following Too Closely
*Driving Under Suspension
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
*Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
*Failure to Appear – Assumption Parish on charges of:
*Illegal Use of Weapons
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Simple Criminal Damage to Property
*Simple Burglary
*Possession of Marijuana
*Multiple Traffic Violations
Eugene T. Nelson, Jr. remains incarcerated pending bond proceedings.
Lathaniel J. Miles was booked on charges of:
-Fugitive Warrants for:
-Failure to Appear on charges of:
*Resisting an Officer
*Driving Under Suspension
*Speeding
*Interfering with a Law Enforcement Investigation
Lathaniel J. Miles was released on bond.
A third suspect passenger fled and charges are pending against that individual.
