TRAFFIC STOP / GUN LAW VIOLATIONS

LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Christopher Harris, 37, of 237 Triple Oaks Drive, Raceland, LA on felony gun law violations arising from a traffic stop early Sunday morning on LA 308 near Labadieville.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Christopher Harris and engaged the violator in an officer / driver interview. The deputy noted several factors of suspicious nature and concluded that additional investigation was warranted.
It was determined that Christopher Harris was wanted on a fugitive warrant from Lafourche Parish. Christopher Harris was arrested.
The deputy utilized a K-9 to conduct an open air-sniff of the suspect vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle a handgun was seized. Christopher Harris is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess a firearm.
Christopher Harris was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Following Vehicles too Closely
*Fugitive Warrant
Christopher Harris was incarcerated and released on a $25,000 bond.
