TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – I.C.E. ARREST
MALIK GARRETT, DEMETRIC ROYAL NELSON, JR.
PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Malik Garrett, 27, of 2711 Anita Circle, Baton Rouge, LA, on felony drug law violations following a traffic stop in Pierre Part early Thursday morning.
A uniformed patrol deputy assigned to I.C.E. observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on LA 70 and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Demetric Royal Nelson, Jr. The deputy interviewed Nelson, then proceeded to interview the passenger, now identified as Malik Garrett.
At the conclusion of those interviews, the deputy concluded that additional investigation was warranted.
A K-9 unit was summoned to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the suspect vehicle and alerted positive for the presence of controlled dangerous substances. A subsequent search of that vehicle resulted in the seizure of suspected illegal controlled dangerous substances. That substance was attributed to Malik Garrett. As a result, Malik Garrett was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Prohibited Acts – Schedule I Narcotics
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Malik Garrett remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
Demetric Royal Nelson, Jr. was ticketed for:
*No Driver’s License
*Expired Inspection Tag
*Speeding
Demetric Royal Nelson, Jr. was released.
