TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – JAMES E. POPE
PIERRE PART– Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of James E. Pope, 36, of 105 East Songer Street, Waynesoboro, Tennessee, on felony charges arising from a Thursday evening stop in Pierre Part, LA.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation near LA 70 and Teddy Street and initiated a stop of the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as James E. Pope and conducted an officer / violator interview.
The deputy noted an odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The deputy further noted a holstered firearm inside the vehicle.
The deputy felt as though additional investigation was warranted. A search of the suspect vehicle yielded quantities of suspected marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia as well as a large caliber handgun.
James E. Pope was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
*Possession of Marijuana
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
James E. Pope remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
