TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Blaine Leo Newton, 48, of 34237 Duff Road, Walker, LA, on felony drug charges arising out of a traffic stop on LA 70 East on Tuesday evening.
A uniformed patrol officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the violator vehicle.
The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Blaine Leo Newton. During the initial interview process, deputies determined that Newton was driving on a suspended driver’s license.
During the investigative stop, the deputy felt that additional investigation was warranted and requested a K-9 to the stop location.
The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.
During a subsequent search, quantities of heroin and meth-amphetamine were located as well as drug paraphernalia.
Blaine Leo Newton was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Facility on charges of:
*Possession of Meth-Amphetamine
*Possession of Heroin
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Driving Under Suspension
*Careless Operation
*Parole Hold – Louisiana Dept. of Corrections
Blaine Leo Newton remains incarcerated without bond.
