TRAFFIC STOP / DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

PLATTENVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Ray J. Madere, 57, of 5494 Highway 308, Plattenville, LA and William S. Preston, 49, of 121 Heltz Street, Garyville, LA, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop near Plattenville on Monday afternoon.
A narcotics unit on assignment observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle.
The passenger, identified as Ray J. Madere, immediately exited the vehicle and gave indications that he was about to run. The agent immediately ordered Madere back to the vehicle at which time he complied.
Contact was then made with the driver now identified as William S. Preston. The driver displayed unusual actions, generally indicative of illegal drug activity.
After interviewing both Preston and Madere, a search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of suspected meth-amphetamine and a handgun. Agents also noted Madere to be a convicted felon.
Ray J. Madere was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth-Amphetamine
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Illegal Carrying of Weapons in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
William S. Preston was arrested on charges of:
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth-Amphetamine
*Illegal Carrying of Weapon in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
*Broken / No Tail Lamps
Both Ray J. Madere and William S. Preston remain incarcerated pending bond proceedings.
Agents also seized an amount of U.S. currency.
Ray J. Madere has a significant prior criminal history.
