TRAFFIC STOP – AGGRAVATED BATTERY

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Charles Walter Patterson, III, 42, of 133 Violet Street, Labadieville, LA, on multiple felony charges arising from a traffic stop on LA 398 near Bayou L’Ourse on Tuesday afternoon.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Charles Walter Patterson, III and engaged the driver in an officer / violator interview. The deputy noted an odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle. At some point, the deputy requested consent to search the suspect vehicle which Patterson granted. As the suspect began to exit his vehicle, the deputy observed Patterson attempting to conceal a large bag of suspected marijuana in his clothing. The deputy ordered Charles Walter Patterson, III, to stop at which time the suspect used the door to strike the deputy. The suspect fled into the swamp. The deputy was able to capture Charles Walter Patterson, III and recover the suspected marijuana.
Charles Walter Patterson, III was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Battery
*Obstruction of Justice
*Possession of Marijuana
*Speeding
Charles Walter Patterson, III remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
