TRAFFIC INCIDENT – AGGRAVATED FLIGHT

PAINCOURTVILLE– Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Charles J. Fair, 35, of 135 Matthew Street, Bertrandville, LA, on felony charges arising out of a traffic incident turned pursuit situation on LA 70 East on Friday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle at a local retail establishment. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated and entered LA 70 and headed east. The suspect vehicle headed into Donaldsonville with the deputy in pursuit. The suspect vehicle continued through several streets in the city causing damages to private property. The suspect vehicle then turned onto LA 308 heading south back toward Assumption Parish. Another Assumption patrol deputy deployed a set of stop sticks and the suspect vehicle made contact and was disabled. The suspect jumped into Bayou Lafourche and was eventually captured.
The suspect, now identified as Charles J. Fair was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail as a fugitive. He was then booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Insurance Security Required
*Switched License Plate
*Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*Resisting an Officer
*Improper Display of License Plate
*Failure to Appear – Resisting an Officer, Disturbing the Peace (Assumption Parish)
*Failure to Appear – Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (Assumption Parish)
*Failure to Appear – Aggravated Second Degree Battery (Assumption Parish)
Charles J. Fair remains incarcerated without bond
