NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Willard Eugene Young, Jr., on charges related to a felony traffic stop by an I.C.E. Unit Deputy.
The deputy was on assignment in the LA 401 / Lincoln Street area late Tuesday night when he observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The patrol deputy initiated a stop of the vehicle and made contact with the driver now identified as Willard Eugene Young, Jr. The violator gave conflicting accounts as to where he was going and for his purpose in the area. Furthermore, the deputy noted an odor of suspected marijuana.
A K-9 Unit was summoned and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal substances. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of controlled dangerous substances and a handgun. It was determined that this suspect was previously convicted of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and Prohibited Acts Schedule II.
Willard Eugene Young, Jr. was arrested and booked on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Possession of Cannabinoids / Synthetic Marijuana
*Driving Under Suspension
*Headlamps for Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles Required
Willard Eugene Young remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
