SHOOTING INCIDENT – COMPUTER AIDED SOLICITATION OF A MINOR FOR SEXUAL PURPOSES – ANTHONY CARTER, JR.
PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Anthony Carter, Jr., 18, of 2853 Sugar Lakes Lane, Paulina, LA, on attempted murder charges arising from an incident at a residence off of LA 308 in Paincourtville, LA, on January 23, 2023.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at the location and made contact with the complainant / victim who advised that her juvenile daughter had been forbidden from leaving the family home.
An individual, now identified as Anthony Carter, Jr., arranged to pick-up the juvenile through electronic media for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity.
As the juvenile was leaving with Carter in his vehicle, the complainant attempted to stop him. At some point during the confrontation, Anthony Carter, Jr. exited his vehicle and fired multiple gunshots at the complainant. She was not injured.
Detectives worked the crime scene and were able to seize evidence which aided in corroborating the complainant’s statements.
Arrest warrants were secured for the arrest of Anthony Carter, Jr. on January 25, 2023.
On January 26, 2023, the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office in arresting Anthony Carter, Jr. He was transported to Assumption Parish and booked into the detention center on charges of:
*Attempted Second Degree Murder
*Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile
*Computer Aided Solicitation of a Minor for Sexual Purposes
Anthony Carter, Jr. remains incarcerated with bond set at $80,000.
The juvenile in this matter was charged by verified complaint on counts of:
*Battery of a Police Officer
*Obstruction of Justice
*Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder
The juvenile was ordered held in continued custody.
