DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – AGGRAVATED FLIGHT

BELLE ROSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Colby Shawn Carter, 29, of 165 Freetown Lane, Belle Rose, LA, on charges in connection with a high-speed pursuit northbound into Ascension Parish.
On December 20, 2019, a uniformed patrol officer working the Belle Terre/ LA 308 area north of Belle Rose, clocked a north bound vehicle speeding. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect chose to engage in a high-speed pursuit.
Several miles into Ascension Parish, the suspect raced through subdivision areas, eventually crashing. The suspect attempted to flee, but the deputy was able to arrest him. As a result of this incident, a quantity of marijuana and MDMA was seized. Deputies identified the driver as Colby Shawn Carter and determined that he was wanted on felony charges in Ascension Parish.
Colby Shawn Carter was transferred to Assumption Parish on Tuesday and booked on charges of:
*Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
*Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy)
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
*Speeding
*Resisting an Officer
*No Insurance
*Obstruction of Justice
Colby Shawn Carter remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
