DRUG LAW VIOLATION /OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Kenyatta Charles, 23, of 116 Charles Street, Napoleonville, LA, on felony charges in connection with a July 5, 2019 incident.

On the aforementioned date, a uniformed patrol deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Kenyatta Charles was an occupant of the vehicle.

Following the completion of the traffic stop, deputies located a substantial quantity of marijuana near the seating position of Kenyatta Charles, but outside of the vehicle.

An investigation ensued and deputies were able to develop probable cause that Charles threw the package out of the car.

Warrants were obtained for Charles’ arrest and he was taken into custody in the state of Texas. He was transported to Assumption Parish where he was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center early Sunday morning on charges of:

*Obstruction of Justice
*Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute

Kenyatta Charles remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
