NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Clifford Cambel McCoy, 47, of 391 Christian Drive, Eldorado, Arkansas, in connection with a financial fraud case.
On June 13, 2019, detectives initiated an investigation related to a theft through fraudulent means against a local public entity.
The complaint centered around a check that the public agency mailed for payment of an invoice. Somehow, that check, valued at $1,539, was stolen after it was mailed and recreated by means of fraudulent conduct, made payable to Clifford Cambel McCoy. That check was cashed at a financial institution in the New Orleans area.
Detectives were able to compare the driver’s license provided at the time the check was cashed, to video surveillance from the bank and they were one and the same.
Detectives eventually established probable cause to secure arrest warrants for the suspect.
Clifford Cambel McCoy was arrested in Union County, Arkansas on September 27, 2019.
Clifford Cambel McCoy waived extradition proceedings and was transferred to Assumption Parish where he was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Wednesday on charges of:
*Bank Fraud
*Monetary Instrument Abuse
*Identity Theft
McCoy remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
