ASSUMPTION PARISH SPECIAL OLYMPICS
NAPOLEONVILLE – A crowd of supporters and students from every school in the parish gave a grand welcome to this year’s Special Olympics at the community center on Wednesday.
Special Olympics is an international program to allow individuals with intellectual disabilities who are 8 years of age and older with year-round sports training and athletic competition in more than 20 Olympic type summer and winter sports. The program gives participants continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office provided food and drinks for all and Sheriff Falcon participated in escorting each group of kids through an isle of cheerleaders to open the ceremonies.
“I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in this great event and to show our love to all the participants”, Falcon said. “To all that made this possible, I thank you,” Sheriff Falcon said. Additionally, Sheriff Falcon thanks the Assumption Parish School System for allowing the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office to participate in the event.
This year’s ceremonies were held in the community center on LA 308 due to inclement weather, but that did not stop all the participants from having a grand old time.
