TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

AMELIA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Christopher Dwaine Woods, 29, of 103 Eleventh Street, Morgan City, La., on felony drug law violations following a traffic stop near Amelia on Tuesday.
A uniformed patrol officer on assignment, observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on U.S. 90 and initiated a stop of the suspect vehicle.
The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Jamerle Gash, 18, of Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, La. Gash was not in possession of a driver’s license.
The deputy noted a pungent odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
The deputy then made contact with the passenger, now identified as Christopher Dwaine Woods, who appeared to be acting nervously.
At some point during the investigation, the deputy summoned a K-9 to the scene. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle which proved positive for the presence of illegal narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a significant quantity of marijuana which was attributed to Christopher Dwaine Woods. He was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Facility on charges of:
*Obstruction of Justice
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
Christopher Dwaine Woods was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
The driver, Jamerle Gash was cited for:
*No Drivers License
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
