TRAFFIC STOP, DRUG LAW VIOLATION, PURSUIT

PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of James T. Acosta, Jr., 51, of 4492 Highway 83, Franklin, LA, on felony charges following a pursuit and traffic stop on Sunday near Pierre Part, LA.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on LA 70 in Pierre Part and proceeded to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.

The suspect, now identified as James T. Acosta, Jr., was arrested and in the process was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Acosta was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Marijuana (Third Offense-Felony)
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Driving Under Suspension
*Speeding
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
*No Seat Belt
*Flight from an Officer
*Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle

James T. Acosta, Jr. remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing. Acosta has multiple prior arrests on drug law violations.
