Armed Robbery / High Speed Pursuit / Crash - Monday, March 26, 2018

NAPOLENVILLE Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Glen Derrick Barnes, 38, of 6221 Calion Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred Friday evening near St. John in Lafourche Parish.

Late Friday afternoon, the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office issued a bulletin in connection with the robbery of a Dollar General Store located on LA 1 North of Thibodaux, LA.

A southbound Assumption Parish K-9 unit spotted the suspect and attempted to stop the car south of Napoleonville.  The north bound vehicle accelerated to speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour and eventually lost control at LA 1 and Franklin Street and crashed into the police jury complex.  The suspect then jumped into Bayou Lafourche, but was quickly apprehended by deputies and K-9s.

Glen Derrick Barnes was charged as a fugitive from Lafourche Parish for First Degree Robbery.

Barnes was charged in Assumption Parish on counts of:

            *Resisting an Officer (3 Counts, Felony)

            *Simple Criminal Damage to Property (Felony)

            *Aggravated Flight from an Officer (Felony)

Additionally, Barnes faces several traffic related counts from State Police relating to the crash.

Barnes remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
