BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Gary Don Martin, 62, of 143 Bayou Bouef Road, Morgan City, LA, as well as the seizure of a significant amount of meth-amphetamine following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle driven by Gary Don Martin fail to signal a turn.

The officer executed a traffic stop and immediately noticed an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  The deputy conducted an interview of Gary Don Martin.  The deputy opined that based on that interview, additional investigation was warranted for officer safety and a pat down search was conducted of the suspect.

Based on the officer/suspect interview and additional observations by the deputy, a very significant amount of meth-amphetamine was seized.  The substance is high grade in purity and has an estimated street value of $5,000 per ounce.  Deputies also seized a quantity of marijuana.

Martin was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Meth-Amphetamine with Intent to Distribute

            *Improper Turning

            *Possession of Marijuana
