Traffic Stop / Domestic Violation - Thursday, February 22, 2018

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Kovadus D. Johnson, 26, 151 Jacobs Street, Napoleonville, LA, Wednesday evening resulting from a traffic stop.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle in Napoleonville with a burnt headlight and no tail lights.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and determined that Kovadus D. Johnson was the driver and his driver’s license was under suspension.  The officer noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  Both the driver and a passenger were interviewed.

That interview led to a search of the vehicle.  As a result of that search, a large caliber handgun was seized as well as a quantity of marijuana.

Kovadus Johnson was placed under arrest, transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center for booking.  Once at the jail, records indicated that Johnson was currently under a protective order and was prohibited from possessing firearms. Deputies also seized additional marijuana from Johnson’s person.

Johnson was booked on counts of:

            *Taking Contraband to/from a Penal Institution

            *Prohibition on the Possession of a Firearm by a Person Against Whom a protective Order was Issued

            *Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense

            *Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances

            *Violation of a Protective Order

Johnson was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
