AARP MEETING - Thursday, April 6, 2017

PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon attended Thursday night’s AARP monthly meeting and dinner at the Pierre Part American Legion.

Sheriff Falcon was the guest speaker. The Sheriff spoke to the group on the current state of the office. Sheriff Falcon said that in less than one year, deputies have completed nearly 4000 hours of training. The Sheriff committed during his campaign that he would contribute a portion of his salary which would be dedicated to training. Since assuming office, Sheriff Falcon has donated 1/3 of his salary to the cause.

Sheriff spoke about current issues affecting juveniles and also addressed upcoming legislation which he feels could have some far reaching and negative effects on the criminal justice system.

Since taking office, Sheriff Falcon has increased manpower to the Uniform Patrol Division and Detectives. Narcotics arrests have increased dramatically under Falcon and the Sheriff said that is one of his highest priorities. With that comes increasing costs to house inmates.
