Two Men Indicted on Murder Charges Following Heroin Related Death of Pierre Part Man - Wednesday, January 18, 2017

On January 10, 2017, an Assumption Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment for Second Degree Murder Charges on both Reid Leonard, age 38, and Broderick Scott, age 40, both of Iberville Parish. These indictments stem after a joint probe by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office and the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office that began following the heroin overdose of a Pierre Part Man.

On July 20, 2016, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 163 N Bay Rd. Pierre Part, in reference to a male subject identified as Chase Gaudet, age 26, being located deceased in his residence. Throughout the course of an intense investigation by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe that Leonard and Gaudet traveled to Scott’s residence to purchase heroin. Scott is accused of distributing a quantity of heroin to Leonard, which was dispensed to and consumed by Gaudet. Gaudet’s manner of death was ruled a heroin overdose.

On January 11, 2017, Reid Leonard was sought by authorities and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on one count of Second Degree Murder. On January 17, 2017, Broderick Scott was sought by authorities and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on one count of Second Degree Murder as well.

Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney is the lead prosecutor on this case. Both Leonard and Scott remain incarcerated at the Assumption Parish Detention Center awaiting prosecution.

Submitted by Public Information Officer Tyler Cavalier for 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky L. Babin.
