IDENTITY THEFT - Friday, January 13, 2017

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Sergio Joel-Deras Mejia, 31, of 136 Nicole Street, Houma, LA. Majia was arrested at the Department of Motor Vehicle’s Office in Napoleonville after he presented a social security number of a deceased person in an attempt to secure a Louisiana Driver’s License. Mejia presented additional documents in his attempt, but the alert clerk at the DMV Office discovered that the social security number was registered to a deceased person.

The clerk contacted the Sheriff’s Office and following an investigative interview, Mejia was arrested, transported to the detention center and booked on charges of:

*Forgery

*Identity Theft

*Possession of Fraudulent Documents for Identification Purposes

Mejia was jailed pending a bond hearing.
