TRAFFIC STOP - IDENTITY THEFT - Thursday, January 5, 2017

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Edis Alex Mejia Irias, 43, of 247 Green Court, Napoleonville, LA, on charges related to traffic as well as identity violations.

State Troopers arrested Irias on Christmas Day following a traffic accident. As a result of that accident, Troopers charged Irias on counts of:
*D.W.I.
*Failure to Drive on the Right Side of the Roadway
*No Driver’s License 
*Traffic Controls / Signal Violations
*Flight from an Officer

Due to circumstances surrounding Irias identity, Sheriff’s detectives were summoned to investigate. Due to that investigation, the Sheriff’s Office filed additional charges against Irias including:
*Introducing Contraband into a Penal Institution
*Identity Theft
*Distribution or Possession of Fraudulent Documents for Identity Purposes

U.S. Department of Homeland Security has placed a hold on Irias. Irias remains in jail pending a bond hearing.
