SCAMS TARGETING ENTERGY CUSTOMERS - Friday, December 30, 2016

NEW SCAM TARGETS ENTERGY USERS

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports that complaints are being received and parish residents are being directed to particular businesses to purchase "Green Dot” money cards to pay delinquent Entergy bills.  Residents are then instructed to scratch the numbers off the back of the card and call pre-determined 800 series phone number to pay your utility bill.

Once you provide that card number, you have lost the value of the card to the person you called and they are not traceable.  The violators appear to be foreign nationals and the scheme originates in New York.

The Sheriff urges all residents not to use "Green Dot” money cards for any reason what-so-ever.  Many businesses have discontinued using this card due to these illegal operations.

Additionally, Entergy has been contacted and made aware of the situation.  Entergy indicates that they have received some of the same complaints.

If you do receive a call soliciting money for your Entergy bill, immediately call:

1-800-ENT-ERGY and the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 369-2912
