Scams targeting the elderly - Friday, September 30, 2016
The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive complaints of phone scams targeting the elderly.
The most recent callers identify themselves as IRS employees telling people they owe money and request payment and will offer discounts if you pay by phone "Today”. This is a"SCAM”! The IRS does not solicit back taxes or any other debt’s by phone.
In a second popular scam, callers are telling elderly people that their grandchild is in jail and can only be released if money is paid by phone "Today”. This is also a"SCAM”!
Both of these solicitations are SCAMSto get you to send money! If you receive such a call, do not send payment! Call the Sheriff’s Office and we will advise you properly.
