TRAFFIC STOP - DRUG ARREST - Thursday, July 21, 2016

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of David W. Mire, Sr., age 40, of 131 Velma Street, Morgan City, LA, on traffic and drug related charges following a vehicle stop by the Sheriff’s Uniform Patrol Division.

On Friday night, a uniform patrol deputy working the LA. 662 Bayou L’Ourse area, observed a pick-up truck with altered head lamps and tail lights and proceeded to conduct a traffic stop. The deputy activated his emergency lights and immediately noticed the driver throwing objects out of the driver’s side window. The driver stopped and exited the vehicle.

A second deputy arrived and searched the area and did find a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine and a syringe needle.

A K-9 unit arrived and did an open air sniff of the area and alerted on the driver’s door. A subsequent search of the automobile revealed the presence of a white rock like substance on the seat next to where Mr. Mire was seated.

Mr. Mire was arrested and transported to the parish jail where he was charged with:

* Improper Display of Head Lights and Tail Lights

* Obstruction of Justice

* Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 3rd Offense Felony

* Littering

* Possession of Schedule II Narcotics

Mire was booked into the parish jail pending a bail hearing.
