2019 Child Passenger Safety Seat Law - Wednesday, July 31, 2019

SUBJECT:             CHILD SEAT SAFETY LAWS

                                EFFECTIVE TOMORROW, AUGUST 1, 2019

 

NAPOLEONVILLE – Last week, we published the current law governing child seat safety.  Effective this coming Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 12:01 a.m., new laws governing child seat safety take effect.

 

Below is a guide to the new law.

2019 CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY LAW

 

*From Birth to at least two (2) years old

                -Must ride in an infant or convertible child safety seat

 

*At least two (2) years old and has outgrown the rear facing seat by height or weight

                -Ride in a forward facing child safety seat with an internal harness

 

*Four (4) years old and has outgrown the forward facing, internal harness system by height or weight

                -Ride restrained in a belt positioning booster seat

 

*Nine (9) years old or has outgrown the booster seat

                -Ride restrained with a lap-shoulder belt secured correctly on the vehicle

 

*Younger than thirteen (13) years old

                -Ride in the rear seat of a vehicle when available and properly restrained

 

*A child who can be placed in more than one category shall use the more protective category
