TO:                  ALL MEDIA OUTLETS
FROM:            SHERIFF LELAND FALCON

PIERRE PART Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jared Paul Rivere, 32, of 103 Randall Street, Pierre Part, LA, following a traffic stop on Bayou Drive at LA 70 on Wednesday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to an area off of Bayou Drive to investigate a complaint of illegal drug activity ongoing at the time.  Sometime later, deputies observed the suspect vehicle commit a traffic violation near LA 70 at Lee Drive.  A traffic stop was initiated.  The vehicle was driven by a white female and also occupied by a white male.  Both subjects acted nervously and the passenger acknowledged the presence of a syringe in his pocket of which he had just used to inject meth-amphetamine.

The occupants refused to consent to a search of the vehicle.  Deputies called in a K-9 unit for an open-air sniff of the vehicle.  The K-9 alerted positive to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and a search of the vehicle yielded quantities of meth-amphetamine, Diazepam (Valium) and assorted paraphernalia which was assessed to Jared Paul Rivere.

Jared Paul Rivere was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

            *Possession of Meth-Amphetamine

            *Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jared Paul Rivere was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
