LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrests of Mickey Simmons, 32, of 800 Pine Street, Donaldsonville, LA and Demone C. Richard, 31, of 104 Grisaffe Lane, Belle Rose, LA, on charges related to a traffic stop late Saturday night near Labadieville, LA.

An I.C.E. Unit deputy, on detail on LA 1 in Labadieville, observed a southbound vehicle commit multiple violations and executed a stop of the vehicle.  The violator stopped at a residence along LA 1 and the occupants exited and proceeded to walk towards the dwelling. At the deputy’s command, the two occupants stopped and the deputy was able to make visual contact with both.

The deputy proceeded to interview both occupants.  The officer noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the person of both individuals as well as from the suspect vehicle.

Both suspects provided fictitious identification to the officer during the initial interview.  Upon inquiry, the alleged driver acknowledged that a quantity of marijuana was on the seat of the vehicle.  The deputy subsequently seized the marijuana and then detained both suspects pending further investigation.

At some point, the driver acknowledged that his name was Demone Richard and he also consented to a search of the vehicle.  As a result of that search, an additional quantity of marijuana was seized as well as associated paraphernalia.  A firearm was also seized.

Both individuals were placed under arrest and transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center for booking.

Once at the prison complex, a fingerprint computer examination correctly identified the passenger as Mickey Simmons, a convicted felon.
