SUBJECT:      MISDEMEANOR THEFT / BANK FRAUD – MELVIN JOSEPH CLARK

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Melvin Joseph Clark, 42, of 625 Hall Street, Houma, LA, on charges related to a July 24, 2018 incident initiated through internet contact by two individuals unknown to each other.

At the time, Melvin Joseph Clark befriended the victim through social network and other electronic communications.  He then persuaded the victim to go to work for the same offshore company he worked for.  The suspect offered to assist the victim in securing the necessary work-related documents she would need.  He convinced the victim to deposit a sum of money into his personal bank account to pay for the documents.

The victim did deposit the money and Melvin Joseph Clark withdrew those funds the same day.

The suspect never delivered the documents and relinquished contact with the victim.

Warrants were issued for Melvin Joseph Clark’s arrest at that time.  Clark was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

            *Misdemeanor Theft

            *Bank Fraud

Melvin Joseph Clark was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
