TO:                  ALL MEDIA OUTLETS
FROM:            SHERIFF LELAND FALCON
SUBJECT:      TRAFFIC / DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – JOSHUA HYATT

LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Joshua Hyatt, 28, of 305 West 4th Street, Roanoke, LA, on charges following an investigation by Sheriff’s deputies.

Early Thursday morning, a deputy on patrol observed a female subject attempting to break a window on a vehicle parked at the fuel pumps of a local business.  The deputy attempted to assist the young lady, but she was somewhat resistant to that help, but eventually agreed.  As the patrol deputy attempted to assist, a male subject exited from inside the business and walked to where the deputy was located.

The deputy requested the assistance of a K-9 unit.  The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.

At this time, the deputy attempted to detain the two occupants.  Joshua Hyatt, who had provided deputies a fictious name, bolted across Highway 1 and jumped into Bayou Lafourche and swam across the bayou.  Hyatt then ran across LA 308 and into a wooded area.  Deputies were able to locate Hyatt and place him under arrest.

Hyatt was transported to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the car and during the search, did seize marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  The vehicle was seized.

Upon discharge from the hospital, Hyatt was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Marijuana (Third or Subsequent Offenses, a Felony)

            *Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

*Seven Counts of Resisting an Officer by Force or Violence

            *Switched License Plate

            *Probation / Parole Violation

            *Fugitive Warrant (Lafourche Parish)

            *Fugitive Warrant (Franklin Police Dept.)

Deputies did seize a sawed of shotgun.

Bond on Hyatt was set at $77,500.  Hyatt will be held without bond on the probation and parole violation.

Hyatt remains incarcerated.

The investigation is continuing and other charges are possible.
